Slingshot Kites Elaborate Human-Powered Flight Hoax Campaign

Isn’t it rather annoying to see these European-based ad campaigns that use elaborately concocted hoaxes in order to garner video views on YouTube?

Today, I received a forward from an aviation friend. It’s a YouTube video depicting a guy who allegedly achieves human-powered flight using a pair of home made wings made–surprisingly–using a kite with both the name and logo of Slingshot Kites:

Notice how the guy on the left runs through the wing on his way to block the camera in the flight. This next video is also done in the same fashion–with a bunch of over-animated Europeans and a really crappy videographer:

That viral video campaign was put together for a company called Killathrill. Here are a couple more fake videos with many of the same traits:

And another:

It’s shiza alright!

Grand County Uncensored | The Last Issue

I’ve decided to focus my efforts elsewhere for a while, so Grand County Uncensored will be going out of print for the time being. I’ll still post updates and musings to this website as time permits.

It was never my intention to make any money with the paper; it was more of my version of public service. I’ve appreciated the opportunity to be able to voice my opinions in a very public fashion. And, for what it’s worth, I feel the paper may have made a minuscule difference in the county. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would ever vote for Sheriff Johnson again, for instance.

Thank God the District Attorney has decided to step down; that’s one out of four. We now need to get rid of Johnson and Judges Hoak and McClelland in order to get some semblance of justice back in the county. Let’s hope the new DA decides to pursue what can only be described as blatant corruption at the Sheriff’s office.

We have town elections coming on April 3rd, and then the commissioners are up in November. Let’s only hope the majority of eligible voters in this county are smart enough to replace the two, ehem, shysters currently begging to keep their jobs. I have no confidence in any of the people currently sitting in the county board room–that goes for the county manager and attorney.

Until next time–Reggie

Kunstler | A Fog of Mendacity

Charles sent me a link to James H. Kunstler’s blog “Clusterfuck Nation.” I’ve been reading Kunstler for years, and his is a must-read in-your-face analysis of the current and ongoing disaster facing the U.S. and the world. Here are a couple good parts:

“In fact, a lot of the propaganda behind the current madness is based on the incapacity of Americans to imagine daily life without all the cars. One very active drummer on the propaganda scene is John Hofmeister, former CEO of Shell Oil. About a week ago he debated Tad Patzek, a petroleum engineer from the University of Texas. Hofmeister’s rap is based on one central fallacious idea: that American life can only continue if we keep all the cars and trucks running. Any other outcome is unthinkable, off the table. To put a finer point on it, he insists that our national identity and destiny are tied to “personal transportation,” code for car dependency.

… In any case, all this wishing and lying is about to collide with price volatility to make the American voting public absolutely batshit crazy with dread and anger. That, of course, will only prompt more lying, whopper-spinning, and grievance-flogging in the political arena. It will be nearly impossible for the public to evaluate reality. In the meantime, those disorders in banking and financial markets are close to running out of control. Events are tending ever closer to criticality. I believe they will be expressed in political violence around the major party conventions this summer. Those will be interesting fog-lifting weeks.”
